A group of approximately more than 590 islands situated in Bay of bengal is surely a bliss on earth. Andaman is famous for its spectacular white sand beaches and the cellular jail(kaala paani jail) but as I explored it on my family holiday I felt it was surely something more than that.Well as we opted for a guided tour of 4 days we had hassle-free arrangements of our stay, food and well planned itinerary which is also something I recommend to any tourist visiting their because its the locals their who can guide you best and not just the internet.
Day 1:
We landed on the Veer Savarkar airport,Port Blair after a 2 hrs. flight from chennai in the middle of the noon. After our luncheon we were taken to the corbyn cove beach located 7 k.m. from the city which was crowded but well developed for tourists having beach chairs for relaxation and shacks for food, have to say couldn’t get a more beautiful start to the tour infact even the road to that beach showcases the brilliant views of the dark blue sea. After spending an hour treating our eyes their we headed for the landmark, cellular jail. Cellular jail in its yesteryears was known for its “kaala paani saza” and was infamous for its most brutal punishments to the freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar. It is also a masterpiece architecturally. The memorial their has photos of the freedom fighters punished their and their memoirs of experiences of agonies. The cells in which they lived, the gallows, their work place seeing all that can make one have wet eyed. The light and sound show in the evening their describes all the andaman’s and cellular jail’s history, surely the show not to be missed. Well that all ended my day making me return with a heavy heart. In the night we went for a local city stroll to markets from hotel by walking but as we noticed their was nothing to shop except if you want to buy antics and accessories as a sovenir made by shell and wood. Besides that in Andaman 4 o’clock sun rises and at eve 4 it sets so the markets also gets close early by 9.
